Have you heard of Kohinoor which means “Mounain of Light” in Persian.  Kohinoor can also be spelt as Koh-e-Noor.  This magificant and famous diamond i 105 carats and was once known as the largest diamond in the world.  The Kohinoor was found in Golconda in India in the state of Andhra Pradesh.  It has been fought over by various owners during time gone, owned in the past by various Mughal, Sikh and Persian rulers.  The Kohnioor became part of the British Crown Jewels when it was confiscated by the East India Company.  In 1877 Benejamin Disraeli declared Queen Victoria Empress of India and the diamond became part of the British Crown Jewels at that point.

Most people who have heard of any diamond have heard of Kohinoor so even if the Kohinoor diamond is no longer the biggest and most expensive diamond in the world it is probably still the most famous.
